Flossing can be quite inconvenient for some. If you’re one of these people, it’s important to take a step back and remember that it’s still important to clean between your teeth at least once a day. Fortunately, there are other oral hygiene tools you can use other than floss to clean your smile, and our dentist, Dr. James D. Schuette, and dental team are more than happy to tell you all about them.
The first oral hygiene tool is a dental pick. A dental pick is a great tool when you need convenience while flossing. This tool is easy to use and it’s effective. It looks almost like a toothpick on one end and it is “u” shaped on the other end. On the “u” shaped side, floss is draped across the space and connected on both ends. All you need to do is use the handle to send the floss between your teeth to clean your chompers and gumline.
The second oral hygiene tool is an electric flosser. Electric flossers can help with spacing problems in the mouth and they can completely clean your smile. There are many electronic flossers to choose from, like vibrating flossers, power flossers, and air flossers. To find out which one is best for you, please ask your dentist.
The third oral hygiene tool is an oral irrigator. An oral irrigator is a small wand that sprays a stream of water out of the tip. You can even choose the pressure you would like the water sprayed. All you need to do is place the wand in your mouth, close your lips around it, turn it on, and move the tip from one smile crevice to the other. The water will wash away the particles that are between your teeth.
